First Beach & Snorkel Stop – the uninhabited “Luis Peña” Cay
After about a 45-minute cruise, leaving our homeport in Fajardo, heading east, we approach the “Cayo Luis Peña” off the western shores of Culebra Island. This cay is part of the Culebra National Wildlife Refuge with rugged terrain and secluded coves. (especially on the western shore) By now your captain will have determined which beach or cove will be the first stop and will set course accordingly.
The kids have the most fun!
Note: Our Snorkel & Beach Tour may include one of the following Beach stops: (Depending on sea and weather conditions)
Carlos Rosario Beach
Luis Peña Beach (west)
Punta Soldado Beach
Once arriving, the SS Tobias anchors off a beautiful beach. Here your guides will give a short talk relating to snorkel safety, do’s and don’ts. We will get in the water to get accustomed to the snorkel gear in preparation for the amazing snorkeling grounds of “Cayo Luis Peña” and Culebra Island!
Lunch is Served!
After snorkeling the crystalline waters and/or exploring the beach, we’ve worked up an appetite. So it’s back to the SS Tobias where the crew has prepared and set up a sumptuous buffet assortment of chilled chicken, tuna, green, pasta and cole slaw salads that hit the spot! After a brief, tropical siesta, it’s time to pull anchor and point Tobais’ bow to our next Beach stop!
Second Stop* – The famous Flamenco Beach of Culebra Island!
After a short cruise and if the sea conditions permit, we will drop anchor at the stunning Flamenco Beach Bay. This is the iconic, horseshoe shaped beach famous the world over as one of the 7 most beautiful beaches on the planet! It is Culebra’s most popular destination. Our most adventuresome guests can gear up and go snorkeling or swim & wade in the crystal clear waters to the beach. The sand is super white and the water is calm with National Wildlife Refuges on either side of the “horseshoe”. Note: Your captain will make every effort for a safe and comfortable cruise to Flamenco Beach. If the sea conditions dictate otherwise an alternate beach stop will be our destination.
* Weather Permitting – Sea conditions may require your captain to choose a different beach. Flamenco Beach is not a guaranteed beach stop.
Or there’s always the white sandy beach that beckons providing our more easy going guests a spot to hang out, catch some rays and just roll around in the gentle surf. It just doesn’t get more relaxing!
Up Anchor & Back to Villa Marina
“Back on the Boat!” the captain calls. Time for a quick rinse off with one of our fresh-water deck showers. The crew serves some snacks and refreshments as the afternoon shadows grow longer. Once underway, heading home, our guests will enjoy the panoramic views of the Island of Vieques to the south and straight ahead into the setting sun, the mountains of the “El Yunque” Rainforest can be seen looking down on the eastern coast of Puerto Rico.
